Bio-Research Lab

Bio Research Lab at the Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur working on Bio-Resource Innovation and Sustainability The Laboratory focuses on developing sustainable bio-resource based technologies through interdisciplinary research. The laboratory works at the interface of formulation development, food science, biotechnology, sustainability, and behavioural research to create innovative solutions for agriculture, pest management system, food systems, and natural product development. The core vision of the laboratory is to transform plant-based bio-resources into high-value, sustainable products by integrating advanced extraction technologies, bioactive compound identification, and product formulation with sustainability assessment and technology adoption studies.

Research Focus Areas

Bio-resource identification and valorisation

Phytochemical extraction and processing technologies

Bioactivity validation and functional applications

Sustainable product development

Consumer behaviour and technology adoption research

Life cycle sustainability assessment

Research Approach

The laboratory follows an integrated research pipeline that includes:

Bio-resource identification → phytochemical screening → sustainable processing and extraction → bioactivity validation → product formulation → sustainability assessment and technology adoption analysis.

This integrated framework ensures translational research from laboratory discovery to real- world applications.

Vision

The lab aims to contribute to sustainable agriculture, functional food innovation, and circular bioeconomy systems by developing science-driven solutions that support environmental sustainability, economic viability, and societal impact.
